SMJK Poi Lam School SMJK Poi Lam is a co-educational school with a student population of about 1900 students. There is a total number of approximately 110 teachers in the school. SMJK Poi Lam is located right in the heart of the Old Town area of the city of Ipoh in Malaysia. It is also known as the town that tin built. This is because Ipoh was once famous as the tin mining town of Perak in the early 19th century.

Ipoh is the capital city of the state of Perak. Perak is a city rich in nature and heritage. Next year, Perak will be declared as '2012 Visit Perak Year'. My school, SMJK Poi Lam is proud to be related to this big event in 2012 as recently we have formed a Choral Speaking team specially to do our part in local community involvement helping to promote Perak to tourists. Our recent debut public performance was on 26 July, 2011 when we were invited to perform 'Jom! Let's Visit Perak!' a piece of poem written by Veronica Woo, our English teacher at the official launch of Tourism Perak Newspaper.
